Back around Christmas 2008, we talked about the first subsidized netbook to turn up in the US being offered at RadioShack. The Acer Aspire One was offered at the time for $99.99 after a rebate and a new AT&T mobile broadband contract.

RadioShack is now offering the 8.9-inch Aspire One in blue or pink for $79.99 with a new 2-year contract for an AT&T mobile Internet plan costing $60 a month or more. The unactivated price of the netbook is $399.99.

The netbook in question is the popular 8.9-inch Aspire One with an Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, Windows XP Home, and a 3-cell battery good for 2.5 hours of use. One big problem for some users will be the low bandwidth caps AT&T places on its mobile broadband offerings that could see you paying hundreds of dollars for downloading only a few movies online.
