Activision has released their latest movie tie-in video game. This one is based off of the upcoming film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which reveals the mysterious backstory behind (d'uh) Wolverine. In the game players will control the hirsute mutant as he goes on an exciting journey of self-discovery and vicious clawed violence.
The movie behind the game was most recently famous for being one of the relatively few blockbuster films to leak to the Internet months before their release. Internet torrent sites had a field day with the unfinished under-edit early release.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine was designed by veteran developer Raven Studios. There have also been special versions of the game, with different content, developed for Playstation 2, PSP, and Wii by developer Amaze. There is no information from Activision at this time about what differences these alternate versions of the game have.
Wolverine is another in an increasingly long line of video games released in multiple versions and on multiple platforms at once. Considering how many gamers have multiple systems, there's a lot of money to be made in selling the same game a half dozen times with minor tweaks to the gear design or adding in a 'bonus' level. Not everyone wants variety in their gaming system.
