Great news for the number one Smartphone maker in the country. The BlackBerry Tour 9630 is coming to Verizon, and the BlackBerry 8520 is coming to T-Mobile. The latter is especially huge, because it means that BlackBerry can add T-Mobile to their list of smartphone carriers.
BlackBerry has been so successful precisely because they have managed to get a high-quality product out where it can be purchased by an enormous amount of people. Every carrier BlackBerry adds means more loyal, habitual BlackBerry users. The cell phone market is shrinking, and every smart manufacturer is doing their best to capture as much market share as possible.
Boy Genius thinks that T-Mobile is planning on marketing the 8520 as a low-cost smartphone, which would be interesting considering the 8520 is not a low-end phone. Again, this smacks of BlackBerry reaching out to grab more customers, even if it means cutting into their profits to do it.
The 9630 will be launching during the week of July 13th on Verizon, and the 8520 will be hitting T-Mobile at some point in Q4. An exact launch date has not yet been announced.
