Update:
The new iPhone 2009 is here. It is called iPhone 3G S.
In mid April I looked at whether the new iPhone 2009 would be a Revolution or just an Upgrade.
Late yesterday a rumor from China traveled across the net describing a new iPhone 2009 that would be just an uninspiring upgrade compared to the current iPhone 3G.
According to the new iPhone rumors Apple would unveil an iPhone with a 600Mhz CPU (instead of 400Mhz), 256MB RAM (instead of 128MB), 32GB/16GB storage versions, 3.2MP Camera (instead of 2.0MP), and an undefined FM feature.
The 3.2MP Camera has been rumored before. Overall this new iPhone would be a solid performer combined with the new iPhone 3.0 OS but would not go over the top and stays behind other smartphones in terms of screen resolution, camera resolution, and other features like 2nd camera, haptic feedback or HD video support.
If the rumor is true and the new iPhone 2009 is not offering much more, than current iPhone 3G users do not necessarily feel the urge to upgrade and the Palm Pre remains pretty hot.
Now we could find comfort in some earlier rumors that Apple might be releasing more than one new iPhone model. The above description of a new iPhone could be compared to the MacBook and Apple could dazzle us with an iPhone Pro following the MacBook Pro path with new case design (unibody aluminum), HD screen, 5MP camera and more.
