As reported Sony will hold its highly anticipated Gamescom press conference today at 6pm local time (noon EDT). For a couple of weeks now Sony has been expected to introduce a new Sony PS3 Slim console along with a major PS3 price-cut.

The Sony Gamescom 2009 media event is scheduled to last for 3 hours. There must be more than a Slim PS3. We found some more rumors and pointers on what Sony will unveil today.

Analoghype (via GamesWelt) is predicting that Sony will unveil the Sony PS3 firmware 3.0 with major new features.
Sony has conveniently scheduled maintenance for the Playstation network during the Gamescom event, so it is not too far fetched to think that Sony is actually updating the Playstation Network with new features as well.

German Golem reports that Playstation Home is getting more powerful and more interactive. Sony is supposed to be close to releasing Home Development Kit 1.3 to developers to create more complex home spaces to get PS3 gamers to come back to Home more often.

I hope for Sony that the company fulfills the high expectations at Gamescom 2009. The company needs a major assault to gain market share this fall.
Update: Sony Gamescom event is underway, PS3 firmware 3.0 already confirmed.
