Good news, Android fans and Verizon subscribers, we have confirmation that the new Droid Eris will launch on November 6th. The Eris seems set to be the iPhone 3G to the Droid's 3GS. Despite the fact that it is virtually identical to the $180 HTC Hero, the Eris will cost only $99. Rumors of the release date and price point leaked out earlier this week, but this leaked internal document found by Engadget is the first real proof we have.
The Eris is definitely a step below the Droid, but it does have two awesome features that its big brother lacks. As a Hero clone, the Eris will pack multitouch and the Sense UI. This means that Android 1.6 won't be happening on the Eris, but the wait until 2.0 isn't too far ahead.
For a $99 phone, the Eris has a lot of cool bells and whistles. It's got a respectable 528 MHz processor, a 5 MP camera, a 3.2” touchscreen, and an 8 GB microSD card. The full retail price is $199 with a $100 rebate. If you decide to get an Eris, you'd be best served by picking it up from Best Buy (if they decide to carry it) as they take care of the rebate for you.
