Every once in a while, manufacturers try something that's actually new. Take Gigabyte. They've just announced a new ultra-thin notebook, the M1305. The laptop itself only packs an Intel 4500MHD integrated GPU, which draws very little power but can't handle very much. The M1305 also has a docking station, which includes an Nvidia GeForce GT220 discrete graphics card and hook-ups for an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
Pick up this Gigabyte machine and a decent monitor, and you've effectively got both a notebook, and a desktop. Unplug the M1305 and slip it into your bag for ultra-portable computing on the go, or plug it into the dock to use your monitor and the GeForce graphics card. This is definitely one of the neater ideas for an ultraportable we've seen.Unfortunately, innovation comes at a price. Converted from New Taiwan Dollars, the M1305 is set to cost around $1200. We'll probably see that price drop a fair amount before this machine comes to the states, but I wouldn't expect it to end up costing much less than $1000.
