Toshiba's Qosmio X505-Q850 has always been the company's experimental
playground for high-end systems, from massive gaming rigs to inventive
multimedia home theater laptops. The Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q850 uses a storage a
combination of 64GB SDD and a 320GB 7,200rpm HDD. This newest series of the
Qosmio packs the new mobile Intel Core i7 CPU and Nvidia’s GeForce GTS 250M
graphics card.
There's nothing revolutionary about the Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q850's plastic
design. It took the previous Qosmio X305-Q725 chassis and slapped on a fresh
laminate made up of decorative patterns and colors. At 10.2 pounds the X505
isn't the heaviest desktop replacement laptop despite having one of the biggest
screens at 18.4 inches. The dimensions of this model are 11.6 x 17.4 x 1.6 inches.
The Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q850 includes a gamut of laptop features. Video-out
ports alone include HDMI-Out, DisplayPort, and VGA-Out. After the HD DVD
debacle, Toshiba has finally jumped on the Blu-ray wagon, as the X505 now
includes a BD-ROM drive that doubles as dual layer DVD burner.
As a gaming machine, the Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q850 is a capable performer but
also at a stunning price of about $2,000. The X505-Q850 is one of the first out
of the gates with the new 1.73GHz, Intel Core i7 820QM processor. It includes 6
GB of DDR3 RAM (upgradable to 8 GB). It also provides a 1.3 megapixel webcam with
Face Recognition capabilities for added security. With the 12-cell (8000 mAh)
battery you can work up to 3 hr and 40 min. HDMI-CEC audio/video output lets you
control additional media players with just a single remote.
