Willcom is Japan's fourth largest mobile carrier offering the PHS (personal handyphone system). There are about 4m PHS subscribers using devices like the Sharp D4 MID (photo).
Reuters reports that Willcom filed for Bankruptcy.
Japan is one of the advanced mobile phone countries. Apparently Willcom could not effectively compete with NTT Docomo and Softbank.

Willcom is not dead though. The PHS service is continueing and Willcom is going to restructure to emerge out of Bankruptcy.
