For a brief period of time yesterday, YouTube removed one of its most popular videos for a terms of use violation. The original “Rickroll” video, which has some 30 million views and consists of a very specific Rick Astley performance, was taken down. The account of the user who uploaded it was also suspended.
Neowin reports that the video was quickly re-instated. A YouTube spokesman confirmed that the removal was a mistake. Rick Astley's manager also commented on the situation, showing a surprising amount of net savvy, “I don't think anyone should or indeed can, stop people having fun on the net, there are more urgent concerns on the internet that need sorting,"
At any rate, the Rickroll video is now back up on YouTube. Childish attempts to get people to watch it may now continue as planned.
