Believe it or not, there was still an HD DVD movie in the works earlier this month. However, despite the movie studio making great pains to go for the now-long-defunct format, it has been forced to cancel its HD DVD plans.
The director of Deadlands 2: Trapped, Gary Ugarek, announced plans for a limited-pressing of an HD DVD version of the movie, which was to be made available later this year. The announcement sparked interest among the old HD DVD supporters from the days of the format war. But, surprise surprise, Ugarek now says he hit "one too many roadblocks" to the project.
Disc printing companies who originally offered to help with production ended up backing out of the deal, and the studio Anthem Pictures had "poor management" in the HD DVD project. In the end it just wasn't worth it. It would have been cool to see one more HD DVD movie come up so long after the death of the format, but alas, it will remain a pipe dream.
Deadlands 2 came out on DVD last year. There are no plans for a Blu-ray release.
