The new backup device is an integrated out of the box solution for backing up critical data and recovering that data in the event of loss. Dell claims that the backup system can reduce costs compared to tape drives by up to 50%.
The DL2100 also has an archive option for Windows file system and Exchange environments. There are numerous options for the device with a performance and a value series. Value machines run an Intel Xeon E5520 CPU while performance machines get two of the same processors. Value line units get 6GB of Ram and performance versions get 24GB. Up to four 500GB HDDs can be used in RAID 5 configuration. The DL2100 will ship immediately starting at $8,600.
