According to the latest rumor on Apple Insider, the 4.0 version of Apple's iPhone operating system will add support for multitasking.
The inability to run multiple apps at the same time remains one of the few, albeit a large, complaint about Apple's proprietary system. This complaint was magnified with the introduction of the iPad, since running multiple apps is much more crucial on a full-sized device like that.
That problem may soon be fixed, however. We know that the 4.0 upgrade should make some sweeping changes. The only rub is that it won't be backwards compatible with current iPhones and iPod Touches on the market.
We'll see what happens. Apple rumors are always fun to watch.
