Intel has just punched it up another notch. They've just sent out a press release announcing the launch of their new 7500 series Xeon processors. These chips represent the largest performance jump in Xeon processor history. Intel states that there is an average improvement of 3x across several benchmarks.
The 7500 Xeons are 8-core, 16-threaded processors with Intel QuickPath technology and the ability to “ultra-scale” up to 16 processors in enterprise configuration, and up to 256 processors and support for certain “super-nodes”. With enough of these little chips, you could build a pretty hardcore supercomputer. Or you could use just one to play the hell out of Starcraft 2.
