Spotify Caps Listening Hours for Free Users

Spotify has only been letting people join and use its service by invitation from an existing Spotify user. The service is still letting users sign up for a free account with an invitation number.

However, Spotify is now capping the hours that a user can listen to the service if they opt for a free account rather than paying. Free users can only listen to Spotify for 20 hours monthly.

The company says that equates to about 25 albums or 300 tracks per month. Users can put up with ads after their 20 hours is used up to continue listening or they can pay for the Premium version at £9.99 monthly. A new £4.99 service is available called Spotify Premium that offers unlimited listening but lacks the ability to listen via mobile phones or offline.
