Toshiba has unveiled three new small form factor HDDs. The new drives all spin at 7200 rpm and have 2.5-inch form factors. The drives are not only smaller than 3.5-inch drives, but need less power as well.

The new HDDs include the MKxx61GSY family aimed at high-performance computing environments with capacities of 160GB to 640GB. Toshiba has also unveiled a new high-durability line of HDDs for 24x7 operations called the MKxx61GSYB series in 80GB to 500GB capacity.

The final of the new HDDs unveiled is a self-encrypting drive with government grade security features. The SED drive will ship later, but the GSY will land in Q3 2010 with the GSYB line shipping in Q4.
