If you're looking for speed in an efficient package, NEC's new LaVie light netbook might just get you excited (netbooknews). This little baby packs a 1366x768 HD display and is driven by an Atom N550 dual-core processor. It has a 6-cell battery and a 10.1" screen.
Other stats are pretty cookie-cutter. 2 GB of RAM, 320 GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium and SDXC card support. The LaVie supports WiMax and has a 10 hour battery life. It's launching in Japan this month for around $1,010. Not the most practical netbook given the price, but it's nice to see where the next generation of these devices are headed.
Consider the LaVie to be a prelude to the sort of netbooks we'll be seeing en masse this holiday season.
