Rovi makes services around digital content including electronic programming guides and content protection.

According to AppleInsider, Rovi Corporation issued an SEC form informing investors that they have signed a multi-year deal with Apple on licensing intellectual property. The details of the deal are confidential.

Rovi offers several services around digital content including digital content protection and Electronic Programming Guides. This could mean that Apple plans to integrate TV and possibly digital video recorder functions in the next Apple TV.

The new Apple TV that will ship in the next few weeks doesn't have enough storage or a tuner to offer such functionality. It makes sense though for Apple to integrate TV and recording in the future to give consumers a single box solution for the living room.
