Buffalo has announced a USB 3.0 Blu-ray drive that is aimed at use with mobile computers and desktops that lack a Blu-ray drive. The device is designed to work with USB 3.0 ports, but it will operate in a USB 2.0 port as well.
The external optical drive can burn to BDR media at 12x speed and writes both single and dual-layer media. It will also write CD and DVD discs in all formats. The drive can burn up to 50GB of data to dual layer discs.
In addition to burning media of all sorts, the Buffalo drive can also play Blu-ray films. Even more interesting is that the optical drive supports 3D Blu-ray. This may be the perfect external optical drive for people with a 3D capable computer needing a Blu-ray drive. It will land in the UK this month for £199.99.
