Behold, the power of WIND!

Denmark could be the first nation to completely kick their dependence on fossil fuels. The Danish Climate Commission has just published a report noting that their fossil fuel addiction could be kicked by 2050. 20% of Denmark's power currently comes from wind power.

The island of Samso has already managed to get 100% of their power from wind sources, although Denmark will have to rely on biomass power as well. On the whole, energy independence will cost them some .5% of their GDP. Three billion dollars over forty years isn't to bad for a fossil fuel-free life.
