Twitter to focus on making money.

Twitter announced that COO Dick Costolo becomes CEO of Twitter. Co-Founder Even Williams steps down from the CEO post to focus on product strategy. Twitter has grown to a 300 employee strong company and Twitter is rolling out more ways to monetize the service. The new CEO Dick Costolo is supposed to take Twitter to the next level in terms of making it a "real" business. You can read more about the management change on the Twitter blog.

Twitter also announced Promoted Accounts. The feature is another way to make money for Twitter besides promoted Tweets. Twitter is launching Promoted Accounts as part of “Suggestions for You”, which suggests accounts that people don’t currently follow and may find interesting. Promoted Accounts helps introduce an even wider variety of accounts people may enjoy. Promoted Accounts are suggested based on a user’s public list of whom they follow. When an advertiser promotes an account, Twitter’s algorithm looks at that account’s followers and determines other accounts that those users tend to follow. If a user follows some of those accounts, but not the advertiser’s account, then Twitter may recommend the advertiser’s Promoted Account to that user.

So keep in mind that Tweets and Twitter accounts are getting more and more sponsored. If this is a good or bad thing is up to you.
