Microsoft will launch Windows Phone 7 tomorrow Oct. 11. Some think like Google's Andy Rubin that we do not need another mobile operating system. In general that is true, but Microsoft has been here already before Android and Apple iOS existed. They messed it up, but now they have their second chance. Besides that, Microsoft Windows is a Desktop OS and that is for me an additional reason to also live on mobile devices. I already called for operating systems with no computer life to leave the smartphone space (e.g. Symbian).
The question is now if Microsoft manages to land a hit with Windows Phone 7 to actually make an impact on the smartphone OS market shares. Right now the sentiment is rather positive towards Windows Phone 7. Let's see if that holds on until after the first new Windows Phones ship. As it stands the Windows Phone 7 devices will go on sale on November 8th in the United States and October 21st in the UK.
