Nokia unveils new details for MeeGo.

Nokia today announced further plans for their new operating system MeeGo. Nokia gives developers the Qt tool that lets them develop apps for Symbian and MeeGo. In addition, Nokia announced its intent to support HTML5 for development of Web content and applications for both Symbian and MeeGo platforms.

Nokia is focusing on Qt as a robust, tried and tested framework that unlocks the hardware, software and service capabilities of the existing Nokia smartphone range as well as creating huge opportunities for future Symbian and MeeGo products.   Nokia's introduction of Qt Quick into the Qt framework enables the more rapid creation of rich user interfaces and the most visually engaging applications.  In addition, Qt's in-built support for HTML5 complements Nokia's intent to support HTML5 in Web browsers.

Qt Quick is a high-level UI technology that allows developers and UI designers to work together to easily create animated, touch-enabled UIs and applications. Qt Quick consists of QML, a JavaScript-like declarative language, Qt Creator, an intuitive tool in the Qt IDE, and Qt Declarative, a C++ module that enables the declarative nature of Qt Quick while using the strengths of Qt fully. Qt Quick supports web technologies very well, and provides a great platform to leverage web technology assets.

Qt Quick will be available in the next release of the Nokia Qt SDK, planned later this year.
