Microsoft Kinect is going to be released next week on November 4th. The Kinect Sensor with Kinect Adventures! is already sold out on Amazon and Walmart. I could still find it on Gamestop at the normal $149.99 price, but they also state that the quantities are limited.
I expect Microsoft to land a major hit with Kinect beating Sony Playstation Move. Sony announced last week that they shipped 1 million Playstation Move units in the Americas in the first month. Sony had to add the shipped units of Canada and South America to come to an impressive sounding 1 million units. VGCharts says Sony sold 470,000 Move controllers in the Americas and EMEAA in the first month. (The difference between shipped and sold sales numbers? Shipped: units shipped to retailers, Sold: units actually bought by customers). I could imagine that Microsoft will announce that they sold 1 million Kinect Sensors in the first 1 week in the United States alone.
The Kinect promise is just way more exciting in my mind. If it really will work well for most Xbox 360 gamers remains to be seen. But the excitement about the idea of playing and controlling the Xbox 360 with no controller is very high.
Amazon still has stock of Kinect Xbox 360 Consoles. If you still want a Kinect controller at launch day, you better hurry and order one now.
