The Worldwide mobile phone market has seen its fourth straight quarter of double-digit growth. The IDC has just sent out a press release reporting that vendors sent out 340.5 million units in Q3 2010. This time last year, they "only" managed 297.1 million. As a symbol of the changing industry times, TWO smartphone vendors are now in the top five.
Apple now holds the #4 position (14.1 million shipped). RIM is also in the top five (12.4 million shipped), and together it and Apple had the highest growth rates of any of the top five vendors. Nokia is still at the head by a substantial margin (110.4 million shipped), but they are not holding on very tight. Growth in the Western European market, the US market and the Latin American market came as a result of smartphone sales.
