Best Buy announced today the Shop Early Save Big Sales event starting this Friday Nov. 5th. The headlining deal is a laptop for only $279.99. The price of the Best Buy Laptop is about $10 lower than Walmart's $288 Laptop offer. Is therefore the Best Buy laptop deal better? We take a closer look to find out.
The early Best Buy Black Friday laptop deal is on the eMachines eME442-V133.
The features of the 15.6-inch Gateway eMachines eME442-V133 laptop include AMD V140 2.3Ghz CPU, ATI Radeon HD 4250 GPU, LCD display with 1,366x728px resolution, 2GB DDR3 RAM (expandable to 4GB), DVD writer drive with double layer support, 250GB HDD, 2-in-1 card reader, Wi-Fi 802.11n, 4-cell battery and Windows 7 Home Premium.
The major difference between the Walmart Laptop and the Best Buy offer is the AMD CPU and GPU. The Walmart Compaq Laptop runs on the Intel Celeron 900 CPU at 2.2Ghz and Intel 4500M graphics. The AMD V140 CPU is a bit higher rated in performance, but the big difference is the ATI HD 4250. It outperforms the Intel GPU by far and allows you to play low-res and older 3D games. It can also decode HD Videos under reasonable system load. If you want to do bit of 3D gaming and HD video watching the eMachines eME442-V133 is the better choice. 3D games and HD video are problematic on the Walmart laptop.
The Walmart Laptop has a bigger battery with 6-cells, versus the 4-cells found in the early Best Buy Black Friday laptop. The 6-cell should give you about 1 hour more battery life. The 4-cell might get you a max. of 2 hours without a power cord. If portability is important the Walmart Laptop is preferable.
Another difference is the screen. The $288 Walmart Laptop has an LED LCD display, whereas the Best Buy laptop uses normal LCD display. The brightness and image quality should be better on the Walmart laptop.
From a design standpoint both laptops have an up to date finish. The Walmart Laptop looks to our eyes a bit more attractive.
Recommendation:
The advantages of the $279.99 Best Buy Laptop in performance and the lower price make it the better deal in our opinion. The $288 Walmart has its merits though, with longer battery life and better screen. More details of the Best Buy Laptop can be found on the Best Buy site.
