iLuv iMM747 iPad Dock Review

Specifications

The iLuv iMM747 has a mini USB port for synchronizing of devices to your computer. It also features a 3.5mm input jack, a power adapter, and needs 15W of power to operate. It measures 14.3" x 5" x 3.7" and weighs two pounds. It has three speakers inside for better sound.

In Use

The iLuv iMM747 is a very cool looking docking station. It's the first dock I have tried that works with the iPad as well as my iPhone. It uses a special flexible docking connector that will hook to your Apple gear without having to mess with any of the clip on adapter trays that some docks use. It's very wide compared to some other iPhone docks I have used. That extra width is to allow the much larger iPad to fit into the dock.

The device has the correct ratings for power to charge the iPad and will synchronize the iPad or iPhone when it is connected to a computer using the mini USB port on the dock. That means you can sit the device in the dock, charge, sync, and play all at once. For devices that are not dockable the iLuv iMM747 has a 3.5mm input.

The sound quality is very good. The device is on par with all the other speaker docks I have tried with bass that is robust, good mids, and highs. The iLuv iMM747 is balanced well rather than having overpowering bass that shakes the desk and your chest. I also really like the design of the iLuv iMM747; it looks like something Apple would design.

The metal has the same color as the metal on the iPad and the overall design is very industrial. The two side speakers look like they are floating over the surface below by being raised from the surface by about half an inch. Those side speakers are down firing units sp that bit of space allows the sound to be heard clearly.

The docking station will play any audio from your iPhone or iPad. That means you can watch streaming content with the iPad docked, keep it charged up and get better sound all at the same time. The iLuv iMM747 is available right now for $149.99.

Verdict

Pros

  • Good sound quality
  • Works with iPad
  • Cool design
  • Allows sync while docked

Cons

  • Width may make it hard to fit in some areas

Conclusion

The iLuv iMM747 is a very nice dock that is perfect for iPad users that also have an iPhone or other device around the house at a nice price.
