As reported earlier, Apple has published on the homepage a cryptic announcement that is somehow related to iTunes. This is one of the very few times that the Apple rumor mill has no real clue what Apple is going to announce tomorrow at 10am EST.
Initial reactions including mine was that Apple is going to release iTunes streaming or iTunes in the cloud. Peter Kafka at All Things D is raising serious doubts about this. He says that there are no deals in place with the music industry to do streaming or let users upload their iTunes library to the cloud. Theoretically Apple could just do it without deals in place, but then they would raise a big, big stink with the music industry.
So if streaming and iTunes in the cloud are out of the picture, what else is Apple announcing tomorrow? It could be just iOS 4.2. iOS 4.2 is offered via iTunes. If it is than Apple's marketing minds are bit twisted.
Daring Fireball reports that some of his readers suggested it could be Beatles related. The clocks resamble the album cover of help. This one is pretty out there, but the more I think about it the more possible it gets. Maybe Yoko Ono changed her mind and the Beatles songs are finally going to be available on iTunes just in time for the Holidays. This would also explain why Apple is not holding a media event. There is just nothing to explain to the press. It is no technology and no new feature. It just new content for iTunes.
