Super Talent Starts Shipping 480GB UltraDrive MX SSD

One of the big complaints that many consumers have about SSDs is that they don’t offer enough storage. Right now, you can find a number of SSDs on the market that can pack away several hundred gigabytes of data. For some folks that just isn't enough storage space.

Limited storage space isn’t the only complaint about SSDs though, they are also expensive. That is the biggest issues with an SSD right now, the cost. Most consumers opt for much larger traditional HDDs that and be had for less money than smaller capacity but higher performance SSDs.

Super Talent has announced that it has started to ship an SSD that will help to address one of those big SSD complaints. The complaint it addresses is low storage capacity. The new SSD is called the UltraDrive MX and the thing has a whopping 480GB of storage space. That makes the SSD one of the highest capacity SSDs available today.

The SSD has enough storage space to use as the main storage drive in your computer to speed up all your apps, not just your OS. I can say from SSD use that I regret having used a small 60GB SSD for my OS, the normal Windows updates and other minor software updates quickly fill the drive up leaving me having to delete stuff.

"Most customers know that Solid State Disks offer superior Performance, Reliability and Power Savings, yet they have been unable to makes the switch. The dual-interface on the UltraDrive MX enables a convenient bridge solution during this critical transition period." - SuperTalent COO, CH Lee.

One cool feature of this SSD is that the drive has a USB interface and a normal SATA interface .The idea is that the USB interface will let the user connect to migrate data from the PC to the new SSD when making the change from an existing storage solution. Once the data migration is done, the SSD can be installed inside the computer. The UltraDrive MX has 250MB/s read speed and 1180MB/s writes. It also comes in 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB capacities. No official price on the 480GB version is offered, the thing will be far from cheap.
