I will say that I really like the idea of having access to TV shows and recorded content on my DVR from anywhere. There are lots of parents at my kid's school that pick up so the wait to get them is long. I would like to be able to watch a cool show while I sit there rather than being stuck reading or listening to the radio the whole time.
I have got used to watching YouTube videos when the urge hits on the iPhone 4 and I could certainly watch other shows on the device. The downside to watching any sort of streaming media on your smartphone is that if you are on a tiered data plan streaming an hour long TV show could well eat up all your data and leave you with a huge bill.
If you don’t mind a big bill, or if you have an unlimited data plan, you are in luck if you are also a Dish Network subscriber. The company has unveiled a new app for Android users called TV Everywhere. The app works on conjunction with the Sling accessory for the company's DVRs. With the Sling accessory connected, you can shoot any live shows or DVR recorded shows over to your mobile device to watch wherever you want. The service is also available on other mobiel devices as well.
The Sling can shoo those programs over WiFi or 3G connections. The Sling accessory will set you back $99 if you don’t already have it. The Sling device will work with ViP 722 and 722k DVRs. The app will also let users set programs to record and allows the device to be used as a remote control.
“DISH Network is proud to be the first pay-TV provider to bring our customers the ability to enjoy their TV anywhere, anytime on a variety of popular devices,” said DISH Network Chief Marketing Officer Ira Bahr. “Unlike mobile viewing from cable and telcos that limit access to select programs, our TV Everywhere services give consumers 24 x 7 access to all of the live and recorded content included with their DISH Network programming subscription.”
