Amazon announced via Twitter a couple days ago that they will sell the previous generation of the Kindle for $89 on Black Friday. This deal made quite some waves. The $89 Kindle will be gone in seconds unless Amazon has still a whole warehouse full of the Kindle 2.
The current Wi-Fi Kindle sells for $139 and has a much better screen. The screen of the Kindle 2 was not bad and is comparable to the screen the current B&N Nook has. On top of that you get 3G connectivity, because Wi-Fi was not an option with this model. Kindle 2 started to ship in February of 2009 with a price tag of $359. The 0.36 inch thick Kindle 2 include 2GB storage, 25% Longer Battery Life than Kindle, 6-inch, 600 x 800 electronic paper display with 16 shades of grey (Kindle only had 4) and still connects only via Amazon Whispernet (3G Sprint network). Kindle 2 has a high-resolution 6-inch electronic paper display.
I think this is actually an awesome deal. You do not get the latest technology, but it is still very reasonable to use.
The $89 Kindle deal will be available at 9am PST on Black Friday. Good luck getting in on that deal.
