It is built like a rubbery tank.
I have both an X and a Y chromosome, which means I love the hell out of gadgets that are bulky, tough and look like they could be used to bludgeon Dolph Lundgren into unconsciousness. Which is how the Eton Raptor caught my eye from across the exhibit hall. The Raptor looks like a huge, rubbery walkie-talkie and packs a giant high-efficiency solar panel on its back.
It can act as a compass, altimeter, AM/FM radio, thermometer, alarm clock, barometer and dump charger. That solar panel charges the Li-Ion battery, which can act as a charger to any one of your mobile devices. The Raptor also packs a carabiner clip on the top for easy carrying and a bottle opener for...opening bottles.
The Raptor feels good, like something you could actually trust your safety too. I'm also pretty certain you could use it to hammer in tent stakes without hurting any of the internals. There's no price yet, but the expected release date is Q1 2011. Here's a video of the Raptor in action, charging my Evo.
