CES 2011: OnStar Comes to the Masses with Aftermarket Mirror Option

OnStar has been around for a long time now and I would bet that almost everyone is familiar with the service from the commercials on TV all the time even if you don’t own a GM product that has OnStar. If you like the idea of OnStar, but want it in a vehicle not from GM you can now do that.

OnStar has announced at CES that starting this Spring Best Buy will be offering a mirror that can be added to any car that puts the same OnStar features into your ride that GM gets. The mirror will launch first at Best Buy and then be offered at other retailers too.

The mirror will cost right at $300. It will give drivers automatic crash response, security, navigation capability, Bluetooth connectivity and more. I wonder how hard it will be to install.
