Verizon is holding a media event today in New York at 11am. It is widely expected, but not officially confirmed that Verizon will announce the Apple iPhone. The anticipation for the Verizon iPhone is huge, but should you really get one?

There are two major issues to consider. Your local network quality and if you can live with the fact that your Verizon iPhone will be outdated in a couple of months. BGR has a good report that shows that AT&T might be the better choice for download speed. It really depends where you live to choose Verizon or AT&T for your iPhone.
Verizon is expected to unveil an iPhone 4 with CDMA support. Nothing more. The new iPhone 5 is expected to be on sale latest in June. When you buy the Verizon iPhone now you are stuck with a 2-year contract and can't upgrade at with a subsidy. Of course nobody knows what the new iPhone 5 will be offering and if it's just going to be a minor update.
Verizon is rumored to offer an unlimited plan for the iPhone, but in reality the "unlimitness" only has value for a very small number of power users. For now it looks like iPhone plan pricing will be the same between AT&T and Verizon.
As the hype for the Verizon iPhone is so big I do not expect Verizon to offer the iPhone 4 for less than $199. Maybe they even try to get away with charging more? We will learn the details about the Verizon iPhone in a couple of hours.
