ZF has announced that it has developed a new 9-speed automatic transmission for cars (not pictured). The 9-speed is for front wheel drive platforms and is optimized for performance and fuel economy in the same transmission. The tranny has a advanced shock absorber system inside that allows for quick lockup of the torque converter.
The 9-speed is similar to the 8-speed the company offers already with short response and shifting time. The transmission is also design to allow direct shifting to gears and for double shifts without the people in the car knowing it has happened.
The transmission also has electronic controls that eliminate unnecessary stepping or shifting constantly. The transmission will go into production in 2012 and you can expect to see it in vehicles sometime after that point.
