Apple has officially announced that the 10 billionth download was made from the App Store over the Weekend. The app that was downloaded was Paper Glider and the person who downloaded the app was given a $10,000 gift card for iTunes.
Interestingly, the app that made the historic number was a free app. “With more than 10 billion apps downloaded in just two and a half years—a staggering seven billion apps in the last year alone—the App Store has surpassed our wildest dreams,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The App Store has revolutionized how software is created, distributed, discovered and sold. While others try to copy the App Store, it continues to offer developers and customers the most innovative experience on the planet.”
When Apple called to give the person the news, the lady hung up on them but eventually was contacted and given the gift card. The buyer of the app was one Gail Davis from Orpington, Kent UK. Via Cult of Mac
