Today I am going to look at a new set of headphones from Denon called the AH-D510R. These over the ear headphones are well padded and promise comfort while listening. If you aren’t a fan of in-ear headphones, the AH-D510R might be perfect for you. Read on for all of the details.

Specifications

The Denon AH-D510R headphones are an over the ear design and have a remote and mic inline for controlling your tunes and calls. The impedance is 32 ohms and frequency response is 8-24,000Hz. The headphones use a 3.5mm headphone port and will work with most Apple gear including the iPhone and iPad.

In Use

The AH-D510R headphones are a larger set of over the ear headphones. The ear cups are black plastic and the frames are silver. The design is very nice looking and the ear cups are well padded making them comfortable for long periods of listening. The headphone cable coming from the left ear cup has the Denon remote on it at about chest height.

The remote has three buttons on one side. The top button is volume up, the bottom is volume down, and the button in the middle is a multifunction control. It can be used to answer and end phone calls or control the track. One press is for play/pause, two skips forward to the next track and three presses goes back to the previous track.

The controls are easy to use and the mic is on the back of that remote. It picks up some room sounds but you can hear and be heard without issues when making phone calls using the headphones. The remote is for use with Apple gear, but the headphones themselves will work with anything that has a 3.5mm headphone port.

The headphones have good sound thanks to the 42mm diaphragms and neodymium magnets in Denon uses. I mention each time I have headphones in for review that I like bass in my music. The bass produced by the AH-D510R is very good and sounds every bit as good as some of the high-end in-ear headphones I have tested. That is a nice feat with over the ear designs since the fit isn’t as tight as the in-ear style and some of the sound pressure escapes.

The bass is deep and can be heard and felt. The mid and high-range sounds are still clear and audible as well. I am not a big fan of in-ear earphones. They bother me so the over-the ear style is what I lean towards at home. The AH-D510R headphones fit snugly enough that they don’t move around if you wear them while exercising or doing other vigorous activities. The only drawback to the style is that they are bulky. The AH-D510R do fold down for storage though.

Verdict

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Good sound
  • Remote works well

Cons

  • Bulky

Conclusion

The Denon AH-D510R headphones are a high-quality over-the-ear headphone with good sound and comfort. If you like the style this is a great option.
