The Volkswagen Super Bowl Commercial "The Force" is taking most of the attention, but the second Volkswagen Super Bowl Commercial dubbed "Black Beetle" is also a masterpiece. Volkswagen has now published a Making of Video that shows how much work went into 30 seconds of the action packed bug chase. The creative team behind the Black Beetle ad actually built a real forest. The only computer generated elements in this ad are the bugs.
The aim was to create an ultra-realistic video that takes elements of car commercials and apply it to insects. I imagine the production cost for Black Beetle are close to what Volkswagen paid for the 30 second spot to FOX ($3m).
Watch the Black Beetle Making of Video below. Volkswagen also published a Making of Video of The Force.
