It hasn't been long at all since we had rumors flying that Apple was hard at work on a new iPhone model that was both smaller and cheaper than the existing iPhone 4. If that smaller screen rumor didn’t sit well with you, a new rumor surfaced today by way of the New York Times.
The NYT cites sources close to Apple that claim the next version of the iPhone is in the works, but it is sized like the current iPhone 4. The device will be cheaper though. It would be great if they could hit that $199 price point with no subsidies. We might see free iPhones in the US with contracts at that outright price.
The reason the NYT source cites for no smaller iPhone is that the device wouldn't necessarily be cheaper to make and a smaller device would be harder to operate. I think the current device is sized well, cheaper is very appealing though.
