The number of tablets on the market is growing all the time thanks to the huge success of the iPad. The iPad kicked off the tablet market and other makers are now rushing to get their own tablets into the hands of consumers. RIM is also set to offer its Blackberry Playbook tablet as well.

The Playbook is the first tablet that is aimed specifically at the professional user. We already know most to of the details on the Playbook, but in case you missed them before I will run them down for you. The Playbook has a 7-inch screen with a 1024 x 600 resolution. It is less than a pound and under half an inch thick making it very portable.

It runs a dual-core 1GHz processor. It will run the Blackberry tablet OS and supports playback of major audio formats. It also has high-resolution video and 1080p HDMI output. The front webcam is a 3MP unit and the rear camera is a 5MP unit. It has 1GB of RAM and can be had with up to 64GB of storage with 16GB and 32GB versions available. Rounding out the features is GPS, an accelerometer, gyroscope, digital compass, stereo speakers, WiFi, and Bluetooth.

OfficeMax has announced that starting on April 19 you can pre-order the Playbook in stores or online. The tablet will sell for $499 with 16GB of storage. The 32GB version will sell for $599 with the 64GB version for $699. The tablet also supports Flash, something the iPad lacks.
