Apple files Patent for iPhone Fitness App.
Apple is maybe looking to "revolutionize" fitness. AppleInsider discovered a newly filed patent entitled "Systems and Methods for Accessing Personalized Fitness Services Using a Portable Electronic Device." - aka iFitness.
The iFitness app would manage all aspects of your workout including scheduling and connecting with workout buddies. Friends would be able to send each other messages with their new best times or weight records.
Apple is active in the fitness sector with the Nike partnership. If Apple is though going to offer a full fitness solution is up in the air.
Why is this important:
The iPhone is the Swiss army knife of today. It can be used for all kinds of applications. Fitness is a huge market. Together with a sports brand it might make sense for Apple to productize what they have patented here. I actually work out with the iPhone. I use an app called Seconds to time and count my weight lifting sets.
