At the end of last year Google released a limited number of Chrome OS netbooks that you had to sign-up for to get for free. Today, according to Forbes, Google is launching another Google Chrome OS device at the Google I/O. The CR-48 Chrome OS netbook could be the basis for the new offering, but with more performance. The CR-48 had a 12.1" display, "oversized clickable touchpad", world-mode 3G, 802.11n dual-band WiFi, 8+ hours of use and 8+ days of stand-by.
Google is supposed to offer the Chrome OS Laptop for $20/month to students. The Chrome OS laptops need the cloud to be useful. All apps are delivered through a browser interface. An inexpensive laptop combined with free apps is ideal for students. If successful, Google could take a lot of laptop business in the Back To School Sales in the coming years.
