Samsung has exhibited a solar powered netbook in Nairobi, Kenya reports news24. Details about the Samsung solar netbook are thin. I could not find any specifications or further details on the Samsung NC 215 S. It is supposed to be completely usable off the grid and just needs the sun to charge its batteries.
Solar powered netbooks would not just be interesting for emerging markets like Africa. Of course the performance of the solar netbook needs to match that of current netbooks on the market and the solar panels should not add bulk.
Netbooks came under pressure (or not) from tablets and manufactures need to find new markets. A low-cost solar powered netbook could be a hit in Africa.
