The rumor that the iPhone 5 will have a new screen that extends edge-to-edge horizontally got new fuel. Electronista reports that a iPhone 5 case appeared on the Chinese B2B site Alibaba. The photo shows an alleged iPhone 5 with edge-to-edge screen design.
An edge-to-edge screen would make the iPhone look even more clean from a design standpoint. There are though usability issues when losing the bezel completely. My 2 year old son sometimes has his thumb on the touchscreen while holding the iPhone. This prevents the touches from his fingers not be recognized. Apple would need to be more smart about detecting this behavior on the edges of the screen.
If true the new large screen could be the only stunning new feature in the iPhone 5 expected to be unveiled this fall. Yesterday we reported that an analyst expects the iPhone 5 more to be an iPhone 4S.
We will have an entire summer of iPhone 5 rumors ahead. Unless an Apple employee will "lose" his iPhone 5 prototype at a bar, we will have to wait until September to know exactly what the iPhone 5 is all about.
