While every student is waiting for the Apple Back To School 2011 deal, Microsoft today announced a new offer for students who purchase a new Windows 7 PC. Starting May 22, students buying a new Windows 7 Computer priced at $699 or more will also get a free Xbox 360 4GB console.
A free Xbox with your PC purchase sounds like a great deal. It is a bit disappointing that Microsoft had to specify a minimum value of PC purchased.
The offer is available at participating retailers for current students in the U.S. while supplies last. Similar student-focused offers will be coming soon in Canada and France. To take advantage of this offer, students or parents must provide valid student identification as defined by the participating retailer. Microsoft has setup a page with more information here (link not live yet). It would be interesting to know if a monitor and other accessories qualify to meet the $699 price point.
Apple has offered in the past years a free 8GB iPod touch with Mac purchases, which matches about the value that Microsoft is giving away in their deal. Apple is expected to unveil their Back To School 2011 deal likely next week.
