Today Kobo unveiled a new eBook Reader using the touchscreen technology from Neonode called zForce. zForce uses infrared to detect touch gestures. The new Kobo Touch Edition has a 6-inch E-ink display with 16 greyscales. It runs on a Freescale i.MX508 CPU and stores up to 30,000 books (with 32GB SD Card). Kobo hired IDEO for the product design and the result is an elegant device with a stylish backside.
Other features of the eReader Touch include Wifi, ePub, PDF, SD card slot and 10 day battery life. The Kobo eReader Touch measures 114x165x10mm and weighs 200g.
The new Kobo eReader Touch ships in June and should soon go on pre-order at a price of $129.99.
