Facebook Spotify Music Deal not Close

The rumor about a Facebook Spotify integration deal got a lot of attention yesterday, but it is likely far off.

Yesterday Forbes broke a rumor that Facebook and music streaming service Spotify would be close to a deal that offers Spotify inside Facebook. The integration would launch as early as in two weeks. The rumor got a lot of attention. I even saw it featured in the news on the German TV. I was already sceptical about this deal as Spotify is not launched yet in the United States. TechCrunch confirms this. Their sources say that Spotify still has not closed deals with two major labels. Closing these deals is complicated and likely takes more than two weeks.

If Facebook is serious about offering music they anyway would have to buy Spotify. Anything else will just be some kind of light integration. The Spotify Desktop client already has some Facebook tie-in to share playlists.
