Nokia unveiled today the long rumored Nokia N9. Despite rumors yesterday that this would be running Maemo, the N9 is actually coming with MeeGo 1.2. The N9 has a touchscreen only design without the typical home button. The home key is replaced by a simple gesture: a swipe. Whenever you're in an application, swiping from the edge of the display takes you home.
The body of the Nokia N9 is precision-machined from a single piece of polycarbonate and flows seamlessly into beautiful curved glass. The laminated deep black display means that the user interface just floats on the surface of the product.
Other feature highlights of the Nokia N9 include 3.9-inch OLED screen, 8MP camera, turn-by-turn navigation, 16:9 video display, Dolby Digital Plus, NFC and 16GB/64GB storage.
The Nokia N9 is scheduled to be in stores later this year, with availability and local pricing to be announced closer to the sales start.
Measurements of the Nokia N9 are 116x45x61.2x7.6-12.1mm and the weight is 135g. Full specifications can be found below as well as the promo video of the Nokia N9.
If Nokia would have put out such a phone two years ago, there would be no struggling to compete with Google Android and Apple iOS. Now things are difficult as we do not even know how long MeeGo will be around with the whole Windows Phone strategy of Nokia.
