Last time we reported about rumors that Apple is getting into the Television business was April. The rumor though that an Apple HDTV would be in the works is years old. Now DailyTech revives the rumor and reports that they got the word from a former Apple executive that Apple is releasing an Apple TV set this fall.
According to the report Apple guns against Netflix with a TV that has the Apple TV box capabilities inside. The TVs would be built by an OEM and carry the Apple branding.
I am very skeptical about this. Apple has right now something good going with the Apple TV box. It is a must have accessory for iPad owners. The next generation of the Apple TV box will add apps and compete directly with Samsung's Smart TV platform. Apple will stick to selling the tiny box to deliver an interactive Apple TV experience. An Apple TV could be a premium offering in the years ahead, once Apple TV boxes are dominating the living room.
