Right now only China Unicom is offering the iPhone in China. This might change dramatically this Fall. Last week we reported that Apple might have already cut a deal with China Mobile, world's largest mobile carrier, to offer the iPhone 5 this Fall. Today Reuters reports that China Telecom is also supposed to launch the iPhone 5 end of this year. China Telecom has over 100 million subscribers. Adding this to the 600 million of China Mobile then Apple is getting access to 700 million potential new iPhone customers.
China Telecom has a CDMA based etwork like Verizon. So Apple is already supporting this technology. The question mark with the China Mobile deal is still if Apple is indeed supporting the carrier's TD-SCDMA technology.
